High Vis / Chapter 8 Graphics

Do you complete works across UK roads?

Do you need your vehicles to be easily seen I poor sight conditions or in the dead of night?

Do you carry out any highway maintenance work?

Then you need to look at complying with Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual. It is recommended that any vehicles used to carry out works or inspections on UK roads should display reflective graphics. This insures that you are easily spotted in poor visibility conditions.

Complying with Chapter 8 means you are doing what is reasonably practicable to establish and maintain safe systems of work in accordance to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Chapter 8:

All vehicles intentionally stopping on high speed roads must have high visibility rear markings comprising of either

– Alternate strips of fluorescent red retro reflective material and fluorescent yellow non retro-reflective material.
– Minimum 150mm width strips each
– Inclined at 45 to 60 degree angle pointing upwards

Or

– A block of fluorescent orange – red retro reflective material. The markings need to cover as much of the rear as possible to meet the guidelines provided.

Maintenance or highway vehicles must display the text ‘HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE’ or ‘MOTORWAY MAINTENANCE’. The text must be a minimum of 140mm high.
